Aaron Stein - Sense of Place

In the article “People Speaking Silently to Themselves” Martin Ball examines the philosophy of Keith Basso in regards to how he believed native peoples viewed place.  Many Native Americans with their mindsets dependent on ritual and the importance of place put special emphasis on certain areas to help themselves maintain the cosmos.  I suppose any religion with any sort of sanctuary does this as they assign a spiritual value and give the place a certain necessity.  In modern times a good question to ponder would be whether or not one can actually find a spiritual connection to a place, or merely chase a feeling that they feel the place has to offer them?
