David Thornton - Drum Circle
The drum circle for Sacred Communication was an awesome an experience and I want talk about its affect on my own perspective on drumming. I myself have been a drummer for over 8 years and it something I cherish. I have always considered it to be a gift from God because of my own beliefs in the Divine. I experienced something great though during the drum circle because I had never had the inclination or thought to pursue communion with the Divine through the medium of a drum. I think it is amazing to have had this revelation because I realize that my talents can not only be recognition of a gift from God, but as a useful tool in Communing with the Divine. My entire outlook on drumming has since changed and every time a play drums or my dejembe it is apparent in my perspective that something is happening between me and the Sacred. I realize that the environment of the drum circle was very influential in people’s experience because of being outside with the sun setting without shoes and playing in the grass. This has greatly revolutionized my perspective on drumming though because of this newfound understanding and approach I can take. Drumming after the drum circle, is something in which I can gather myself introspectively, discuss thoughts of mine with the Sacred, and also just be in awe while recognizing the Divine through the rhythms and sounds I can produce whilst drumming.
