Lyrical interpretation of TOOL's 46&2

My shadow's

Shedding skin and
I've been picking
Scabs again.

Forty six and two are just ahead of me.

The numbers 46 & 2 refer to chromosomes of which a human has 46. Someone with 48(hence 46 & 2) has reached a state of enlightenment. This song, influenced i belive by Jungian philosophy, is about the struggle of attainng this state. Muscle memory refers to genitic history, Shadow refers to ones self image, and old armor is referring to ones body. basically what he's saying is that he is lookin inside himself, at prexisting mechanisms, for the path that will help him leave his body and transcend time.
